Why should I choose you rather than a big agency? Put simply, we're cheaper and we're better! You get the exact same standard of service for less money, and you can communicate directly with your editor.
Why is it important that I can communicate with my editor? With bigger editing agencies, because the editors can't ask you questions, they sometimes have to leave things alone that really need editing. This is why you might sometimes receive your work back with passages marked as 'unclear.' Big agencies don't give you the opportunity to rephrase passages in collaboration with your editor. We do. If your editor at Edit My Thesis finds an unclear phrase or section in your work, you'll be given the opportunity to explain your meaning and your editor will rephrase it with you so that it's clear.
Will my grades improve? Almost certainly. We don't guarantee it, but clients consistently report an improvement in their grades. Many have achieved huge leaps upwards. An exception to this would be if you stopped putting in the same effort as you did prior to using our services — we can only work with what you give us.
Will your editing help my paper get past peer review? Yes and no. Most peer reviewers feel obliged to find something to critique. We can help you remove errors in presentation and help with flow, logic of argument and substantiating claims, which will go a long way towards spoiling the reviewers' fun. However, they will probably still find something they want you to change. That's just the way it works.
How does the process work? First, check our prices, remembering to include the references in the word count if you want them edited. Then send us an enquiry, telling us your word count and deadline, and we'll get back to you very quickly. We do get booked up, so try to book us in advance if you can. You can usually email us your document, but if you have a very large document, we can use Dropbox or a similar service. It's a good idea to allow yourself an extra two or three days after you receive your document back to deal with any issues we've raised (for example, we may identify missing references that you will need to find, or recommend that you check the precise wording of a quotation). We'll return your document to you in Word format, in two versions: one with tracked changes, so you can see every change that has been made, and one with the changes accepted. Comments will also be provided. Once you've looked over the document, we're happy to answer any questions or queries you have about the work.
How long will it take you to edit my document? That partly depends on how busy we are, so book ahead if you can. Documents of under 4,000 words can usually be done in a day, and PhDs usually in a week. Please check with us before relying on these figures.
Have you worked with people who speak English as a second language before? Yes! We've edited for people who speak English as a second, third, fourth or fifth language. About half our customers learned to speak English as adults.
Do you follow the IPEd guidelines for editing academic work? Yes. We follow the IPEd guidelines and any university guidelines provided to us.
Do you offer a guarantee? Yes. We have two main guarantees: (1)Within reason, if you're not happy, we will work with you until you are. (2) We have never failed to deliver a document on time, but if we did, we would fully refund you and deliver the edited document as soon as possible.
Can you help with flow, structure, logic of argument and substantiating claims? Yes. That's all part of our service.
Have you edited a thesis in my discipline before? Probably! Let us know what it is and any concerns you have via our contact form.
Can you just format my document? It doesn't need editing. Yes. We can format to any university or journal requirements, or to standard formats, such as APA or GFG (general formatting guidelines). Contact us for a quote, specifying that you only want formatting.
Are you a member of IPEd? Yes, a full professional member.
Do you edit images? Yes and no. We can do any image edits that can be done in Word (e.g. lightening, darkening, changing tone, changing size and orientation, etc.). We don't do image edits requiring specialist software. If you have something specific in mind, contact usto ask.
Will I have direct contact with my editor? Yes. Unlike with big agencies, you will be able to communicate directly with your editor.
Do you offer academic advice to undergraduate students? Yes, up to a point. We offer general academic critique — for example, concerning logic of argument and substantiating claims. Beyond that, we generally recommend that you speak to your tutors/lecturers about an assignment, but if you send us the assignment guidelines and marking rubric along with your work, we can use these to tell you where we think you might have room for improvement. We will not write any part of any assignment for you.
Do you offer academic critique to postgraduate students? Yes, up to a point. For all disciplines, we can offer general academic critique — for example, concerning logic of argument and substantiating claims. In disciplines where your editor is an experienced lecturer or tutor, more specialised critique is available. This service is designed to help you prepare your work for your supervisor, not to replace proper supervision. Your supervisor always has the last word.
Will you provide academic critique to academics? Yes, in disciplines where the editor is qualified.
Will you look at a revised version? Yes. If you've only changed a few short passages on our advice, we'll look at a revised version for no charge. If you've changed a substantial portion of the work, we'll look at it for a significantly reduced fee. If you've completely re-written it, we can offer a small discount on our usual fee.
Will you find my missing references for me? We will identify which references are missing (either in the text or in the reference list) so that you can chase them. Finding them for you would count as producing content, which we don't do. In any case, we don't have access to most academic databases or your course materials, so we couldn't do it even if we wanted to — which we don't.
Will you analyse my data for me? No.
Will you write my assignment/chapter/paper for me? No.
Will you write a little bit of it for me? No.
Not even a couple of sentences? No.
Can you give me a bigger discount? If you're a frequent customer, let's talk.
I'm an academic and I only want a critique for my paper. Can you help? If it's within our expertise, yes. Just let us know when you contact us.
Why does Rebecca have two PhDs? She's not very sure how that happened.
